General Information
Holt Farm Infant School shares a site with Holt Farm Junior School. We work closely together to ensure that our families and children experience continuity between the schools.
The Infant and Junior Schools share the kitchen facilities, playground and school field. We endeavour to collaborate through out the year on shared activities and events to bring the Holt Farm community together.
In the Infant school have 9 classes which accommodate 30 children each, with a yearly intake of 90 pupils. Children begin their school life in one of our 3 Reception classes; this phase of their education is known as The Early Years Foundation Stage. Children then progress into Key Stage 1, where they spend 2 years, before leaving us to go to the Junior School.
Breakfast Club
Our popular Breakfast Club runs from 7:45 – 8:45am. The club is run by members of our nurturing support staff. The cost of the club is £4.50 per session or is free for Pupil Premium children. The children can have a hot or cold breakfast and have lots of fun activities to choose from including construction play, role-play, colouring, books and games. To find out more about our popular breakfast club please click here.
After School Club
Our After school club is called 'Twilight Club'. This currently operates Monday - Thursdays from 3.15-4.15pm based on the existing needs of our parents. This club is supervised by members of our support staff. The children can play with a range of activities such as toys, games, colouring and drawing. For more information click here.
We are looking to expand our after school offer, depending on need. Please contact the school office to enquire about longer sessions.
Travelling to school
We strongly encourage our children and families to make active and sustainable travel choices. We regularly promote walking, scooting and wheeling to school as our preferred method for our pupils travelling to and from school, as well as making use of public transport.
There is NO parking on site for parents and carers. Do not attempt to stop directly outside of the school, as this is a very busy road.
We understand that for some families they need to drive their child to school. The nearest parking spaces are opposite the school within the new housing development, where a small car park is available.
Please see our Travel Plan page for further information on how we support sustainable travel at Holt Farm.
Outdoor play
Outdoor play is an essential part of the Foundation Stage entitlement. Children in reception have the opportunity to free flow in and out of reception classrooms at set times during the morning and in the afternoon. They have their own learning garden which is filled with exciting resources.
In Key Stage 1, the children are given the opportunity to play outside during the morning at a set break time, where they can take a break from the learning in the classroom, run and play outside and enjoy a healthy snack. KS1 classes also regularly access our wonderful school grounds as part of our outdoor learning opportunities, which are weaved through out our school curriculum.
Lunch time
Lunch time is from 12:00 – 1:10pm. All infant children are entitled to a free hot or cold meal. During the lunch time, children have access to our school playground and in good weather our school field.
We offer excellent active play opportunities at lunchtime, with a range of large play equipment that is available on a rota for each year group. There are also toys and games available to ensure everyone has access to a happy playtime.
Our Midday Assistants are often also our support staff who work with our children during classroom learning times, meaning that children benefit from consistent, nurturing relationships through out their school day.
School Dinners
All infant children are entitled to a free hot or cold meal. This is eaten in the school hall. We are very proud of our school meal offer, and highly value the importance of having freshly cooked, healthy meals for our pupils. All our meals are prepared in our school kitchen using fresh ingredients sourced locally where possible. Healthy eating is encouraged and foods cooked in our kitchen are low in fat, low in salt and home-cooked wherever possible. We use fresh vegetables every day and offer a choice of water or milk. The current “School Menu Week” can be found on the Newsletter.
Parents may provide a healthy packed lunch for their child if preferred or children may go home for lunch.
More information is available on or school meals page.
Packed Lunch
Whilst we prefer our children to access a FREE, healthy school dinner, we understand that for some children they may prefer a home prepared packed lunch.
Packed lunches are required to be a healthy, balanced meal. Children may bring a cold drink in an unbreakable flask. Water is provided. We do not allow fizzy drinks. Sweets and chocolate are not allowed.
We frequently have children with severe allergies that can be airborne, therefore products that contain nuts, such as peanut butter or nut based bars are not allowed. We currently have a no egg policy as we have a child in school with an airborne egg allergy.
More information on what is considered a healthy packed lunch is available on or school meals page.
Home Dinners
We prefer for our children to stay in school for the duration of the school day. However, we understand that on occasions children may benefit from or require to go home at lunchtimes. In this instance, the school must be notified. Children are collected at 12.00am from the school office and must return no later than 1.10pm ready for afternoon registration.
Morning Snack
The government provide every child with a piece of fruit as a snack every day. This is delivered directly to the school and distributed to each class. We do not have a choice in what is provided. Common deliveries include apples, bananas, satsumas, carrots, cucumbers and peppers. We encourage all children to try the fruit to expand their tastes.
Water is supplied throughout the school. We understand how important it is to drink plenty of water so children can bring a water bottle in order to drink throughout the school day.
Milk can be ordered through ‘Cool Milk’ and delivered to your child in school daily. The link to the website is here.
No snacks or other drinks are allowed.
